‘Girls who receive an education are more empowered, better prepared to protect themselves against violence, abuse, exploitation, trafficking and less vulnerable to disease’

United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative

Girls, Girls, Girls

No one knows how many girls and women are trafficked around the world but it is certainly hundreds of thousands. Boys and men are also trafficked for things like sexual exploitation, street crime and labour, but the fact is girls and women are statistically more likely to become the victims of trafficking.

Human trafficking is to be recruited, deceived and forced to work in places like factories, farms, private houses, or brothels

Education ... a ticket to freedom?

EDUCATION… A TICKET TO FREEDOM?

Around the world girls are less likely to go to school and more likely to be literate then their brothers. Less education and training means girls have fewer opportunities to get a job when they are older. This means they are more vulnerable to being trafficked.

The lack of toilets for girls at many schools is often a large contributor to girls being absent or dropping out of education altogether.  A 2010 Unicef report states

“While affecting all school-aged children, inadequate sanitation facilities hits girls the hardest, pushing many out of the classroom for lack of privacy and dignity. In some cases girls put up with these deplorable conditions only to leave when they begin to menstruate”.

This is why Freedom Ticket for Life links a girl’s education to training, jobs, and lessons on how to migrate so they DON’T fall prey to the lies of traffickers.

HOW TO DO IT?
